Heating Maintenance & Furnace Cleaning
No one wants their furnace to quit working in the middle of a snowstorm. Waking up to a cold house is not fun, and the lack of heat in your home can lead to freezing pipes and other weather related issues. One of the main ways to avoid heating repairs is routine maintenance, and keeping your furnace clean is one of the most important aspects of this maintenance.
Furnace Cleaning
Routine maintenance not only keeps your furnace in good working order, saving you money on energy bills, but also extends the life of your heating system.
The first part of your furnace that you should check is the filter. Some furnaces have a permanent filter and others have a disposable filter. If your filter is permanent, you will need to remove it and clean it with a mild detergent and water. Allow it to air dry, then replace. If your furnace requires a disposable filter, remove it and put in a new, clean filter. Filters should be changed or cleaned monthly when the furnace is in active use. Failure to use clean filters will result in poor air quality throughout your home. It is also important to keep the furnace itself clean. Dust can collect in the unit which aids in poor performance and efficiency. Make sure that you have cut the power to the furnace before you begin, and take extra caution not to damage anything inside the unit. Furnaces should also be checked for leaks and other potential problems on a regular basis, ideally annually. Like most machinery and appliances, furnaces will serve you well if you care for them properly. |
